Dr. Daniel T. Cerutti passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the age of 54. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 18th, 1956 and moved with his family to the United States in 1963. He grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. His father, Edward R. Cerutti, M.D., was a pediatrician and his mother, Marilyn Baker Cerutti, was a translator and interpreter. Dr. Cerutti earned his B.A. in Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1984. From there he went to Temple University where he earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology in 1989. He then embarked on a distinguished career in research and teaching. He held positions at the Institute for Disabilities Studies at the University of Minnesota, the Language Research Center at Georgia State University, the Yerkes Primate Center at Emory University, Davidson College, the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Iztacala, the University of Madgeburg in Germany, and Duke University. In the Fall of 2007 Dr. Cerutti joined the faculty of California State University, East Bay. Dr. Ceruttiā€™s research was in the area of Comparative Psychology. Over the course of his career, he studied the behavior of a wide variety of species including fish, birds, rodents, and primates. His numerous publications in the top journals in his field attest to the quality and impact of his work. He was also a dedicated and gifted teacher. Students at both Duke University and at Cal State East Bay voted Dr. Cerutti the Department of Psychology Professor of the Year. Many of the students he mentored have gone on to some of the most prestigious graduate schools in the country. In addition to these considerable professional accomplishments, Dr. Cerutti was also an accomplished artist and writer. Dr. Cerutti is survived by his wife Rosa, by two children, son Giordano and stepson Manuel Pena, and by his brother Col. Edward A. Cerutti (Ret) and his sister Cecily Cerutti.
